Ally Financial

UX/UI Design

Background

As a member of the Ally Financial UX Design team, I was focused on automotive projects. One of these projects was Ally Ride Return. Ally Ride Return was focused on turning the lease return process from a multi-step, paper process prone to processing delays into an efficient digital experience.

I designed the workflows for three of the lease return options:

  1. Purchase for inventory: Dealer purchases leased vehicle from the lessee to resell

  2. Resale to lessee: Lessee purchases the leased vehicle from the lessee

  3. Lease Return: Leased vehicle is returned to the dealership until it is sold by the Dealer or through Ally SmartAuction

My Role

I led UX design from user flows, high fidelity designs and prototypes, accessibility annotations, stakeholder presentations, and through handoff engineering. To do so, I collaborated with:

  • 1 Project Manager

  • 2 Business Analysts

  • 1 Content Strategist

  • 1 Lawyer (to ensure legal compliance)

Project Overview

Over the course of 6 months, I:

  • Produced high-fidelity designs and prototypes of the three core workflows: Purchase for inventory, resale to lessee, lease return

    • This included all error and success states

    • A form featuring progressive disclosures to reduce cognitive load and personalize the flow based on the specifics of a given lease and vehicle

    • Constraints for dealership permission levels

  • Used system design to craft the implementation flow in Ally Dealer Dash, where dealerships could request access to and manage their Ally Ride Return account.

  • Crafted content for the Ally Dealer FAQ page in regards to Ally Ride Return

Final Designs

Due to privacy requirements, I am only able to share two publicly available screens.

After entering basic vehicle information - Dealership, Vehicle, VIN, Account - the next steps of the form progressively disclose.

The dealer must then select an option to continue which will provide selection specific follow up questions.

Upon submitting the initial form, the Dealer is brough to a page detailing the quote options available for this vehicle. Vehicle details are on the right-hand column to ensure the Dealer is working on the correct vehicle.

The main page content will display by default the option that the Dealer had previously selected. However, the Dealer may compare the quote details by looking at each individual lease return option, which contains details specific to that quote type and it’s requirements. Alternatively, the Dealer may preview “All Options” to see a high level overview of the quotes for each lease return option.

Once the Dealer completes the affirmation checkbox, they may continue on the flow which will include odometer releases, vehicle condition, and other documents.
